“Worship Me alone.”

The lion has roared—who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken—who can but prophesy? (Amos 3.8)

Proverbs says the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom is the proper application of knowledge. Why then is there so little fear of God in the pursuit of knowledge?

There are wonderful exceptions—scholars who love God and meet Him in their discipline. But they are few.

Far more are those who scoff at God and divorce Him from academia. They say God is an invention of weak-minded people or is a cupcake to make us feel better. They say God can’t be found in the clouds.

Their god is themselves, their knowledge the offering. They slave away at discovery and innovation and marvel at their own works. They would make love to their brains if they could.

What if they came to fear the LORD? What if they grew in wisdom, not just knowledge? They would be wise men, not fools.

But fools they are, who don’t fear the LORD. For the Lion will roar, and knowledge will pass away, and Godless pursuits will crumble.

Oh roar Lion of Judah!

Pray that scholars fear the LORD, which is the beginning of wisdom, and from there, accomplish great things to worship the Lion.
